Appmon. They are artificially intelligent app lifeforms that think and act independently. In the Real World, they transform into Appmon Chips and are able to materialize via the Appli Drive. And now, a terrifying AI lurking in the Dark Web, at the depths of the Net Ocean, has begun to move.

By 2045... Artificial intelligence will surpass human intelligence.

Trivia

Globemon's debut in Digimon Universe Appli Monsters.
  • Appmon comes up with the concept of a new Digimon series but from a modern standpoint and a story with AI and smartphone apps as the hooking factor, which is becoming an increasingly familiar existence in the current era, so they can eventually push Digimon out further in the modern age. All in all, Appmon tries to inherit the revolutionary spirit of the first installment, Digimon Adventure, while keeping opening the series up to new frontiers.[11]
  • As the Appmon fuse and evolve, they go from being in a cel-shaded style to a 3DCG style, in an attempt to express how Appmon, being data lifeforms, are ultimately clumps of data through the visuals. The further evolved Appmon are being portrayed using 3DCG instead of the traditional cel-shaded CG. The creators wanted to express to the viewers how the evolved 'Super Appmon' would probably have a CG look to them if they appeared in the Real World, hence opening up new horizons for the 'Digimon' series by conveying this 'pioneering spirit'.[11]
  • Digimon Universe Appli Monsters ranked 12th in the international fan vote contest for Tokyo Anime Award Festival 2018.
